The famous swiss branch Migros is the official sponsor of 6 different Summer music festivals.
We’ve developed a website which offers information about all the events and concerts, and added engaging games and personalized e-cards. It was organized in 3 groups:
a) Calendar listing – containing festival information, concerts’ timetables, etc.
b) Online games – the 15 top scores would receive a prize.
c) Social network game – select your favorite festival and build a virtual tent, then invite 3 friends to join in. By uploading a photo of yourself and then gather votes for your tent, (by posting it onto your Facebook wall and/or sending the e-card via e-mail). The most rated tent would get free passes for the festival of choice, as well as a real tent to take, big enough to fit 4 people, with food, drinks and special kits.

This is the 4th Edition “…mania.ch” campaign from Migros.ch and it was a Fun Project to do. One can learn about Switzerland while playing different games and by collecting dominos. By clicking on each of the 26 cantons existing on the map of Switzerland, one has to answer a quiz about the designated canton. We selected 10 Tourist attractions and made 10 Games based upon them.

You can play against your friends, play for your Canton and compete for the overall high score. The more points you get, the more your canton will move up in “the Battle of the Swiss Cantons”. We approached as well Facebook and made 2 Facebook games, this was totally a new experience for me and a lot of fun. After 4 running weeks, I’ve realized the amount of success achieved with this project. Here’s a sample of the astonishing statistics we are witnessing: 193 qps (query/second); about 100 000 games a day.

This is the 3 Edition ” …mania.ch campaign” from Migros.ch .  It was one of the more challenging projects I have done.
The complexity doesn’t show so I will write a technical report soon and add it into this post. But here is a short overview: Migros & WWF came together for this project – objective: to collect stickers about rain forests and their faunas. The visitor can learn about rain forests and study their inhabitants and then test his/her knowledge through the Quizz Game. You can also plant a tree in the virtual forest. By selecting a kind of tree, color and flowers, then choose a free spot to place it.
After playing the Quizz you will get points, which you can use to make your tree grow. Every tree is different and unique down to is every pixel which is drawn randomly in real time. You can choose a branch where you want to place a growing point and the tree will assume a different shape. This growing method (class) respects the Fibonacci law, identically as the actual growing of trees, with blossoming flowers and fruits. Daily as you visualize the tree, it will redraw all its 100000 pixels and build curves and leaves. Once you update your tree, the method backs up the previous state of the tree (therefore enabling a time lapse image of your tree getting bigger). The forest overview hast 454 000 tree spaces and if you decide to take a walk through the forest,  this will render all of them in real time for you. More to come…
